HISTORY OF THE INN

Outside view of the INNINN at 2920, an upscale boutique Bed & Breakfast in downtown Baltimore since 2001, provides guests with a unique combination of the old-fashioned and the contemporary. Our comfortable mix of old and new is reflected in the decor of our 3,800 square foot row home as well as in our amenities.

2920 Elliott Street dates back to the 1880’s. The building has long been a tavern, most notably The Blue Lantern, and served many years as a Brothel! It’s true – the second and third floors included a matrix of 20 to 30 rooms, prior to  renovations in the 1990’s. In fact, there was a small door in the alleyway that led to a limestone tiled vestibule with a ladder to the second floor – the only access to the second floor in the entire house. Just imagine sailors sauntering up the hill from the port and sneaking in the back entrance…

That entrance and ladder are now gone, making way for the private bath of our two room suite on the first floor. Also gone are the sauntering sailors and the matrix of rooms. Now the building houses a tastefully renovated, comfortable, contemporary, and stylish boutique Bed and Breakfast in Baltimore that has to be experienced to be best appreciated. Why not find out for yourself?

The INN is located in Historic Canton, one of downtown Baltimore's most desirable neighborhoods. Described in the Baltimore Sun as a cross between Greenwich Village and Key West and located just 2.5 miles from Baltimore's Convention Center and 2 miles from the Inner Harbor, Canton is a convenient option for Baltimore visitors. From shopping to gourmet dining, it is all within walking distance when you stay at INN at 2920!

ABOUT THE OWNERS

The public sitting room at the InnOwners Warren Munroe and David Rohrbaugh desired to own a Bed and Breakfast for many years. After meeting and “talking about it” for several years, they finally decided that it was time to stop talking! After a year of searching for the perfect B&B, they discovered INN at 2920 and knew this was "the one.” And, now, it is!

Warren and David are very service orientated and are committed to providing each and every guest with superior accommodations and amenities, friendly service and a memorable experience.

Warren received his degree in Hospitality Management and Food Technology from Sophia College, Bombay. He went on to work for two luxury hotel chains - Taj Group of Hotels and Oberoi Hotels & Resorts in India and the UK. He moved to America when he was offered a job with Carnival Cruise Lines where he worked for 7 years. A visit to Washington DC one summer ended with Warren moving to Washington and working for Hilton Hotels followed by the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown. He has worked every facet of the hotel industry and is currently a Human Resources Director. His knowledge of, experience in and passion for hospitality is evident in everything he does.

David is a Pharmacist by profession with a flair for Meeting Planning and Convention Services. He received his degree from Temple University and has been actively involved with the Rotary Club of York, PA prior to re-locating to Washington DC. He has organized many district events for 20 to 100 people and two multi-day, multi-venue District Conferences for more than 500 people and Chaired the Youth Exchange Program for more than 5 years, having been an exchange student to Australia years earlier. David's creativity is put to good use at the Inn in areas of public relations, marketing, and event planning.

INN at 2920 once again has an in-house chef! Our Innkeeper, Roxanne, has more than 10 years experience as a pastry chef and instructor, having trained at the Culinary Institute of America. She has "picked the brains" of many world class chefs during multiple fellowships and has previously worked at a bed and breakfast in upstate New York. Her best efforts are enjoyed through all five senses, but especially taste and smell. Her forte is your reward!

OUR GREEN EFFORTS

From the first day of business in 2001, INN at 2920 has had an eco-friendly philosophy! We believe that the efforts of a few can positively affect our world, and we hope our efforts become contagious. While our impact may seem small, it all adds up to a cleaner, healthier world for all. For our part, we:

  • Maintain low-allergen natural woven fiber carpets in guest rooms
  • Recycle everything we possibly can
  • Buy local whenever possible
  • Use earth friendly natural cleaning and laundry products from Sun & Earth
  • Use compact fluorescent bulbs in most fixtures and turn off any unnecessary lights when they are not needed
  • Encourage guests to re-use bath linens to reduce water use and waste treatment
  • For longer stays, we only change bed linens after 2 or 3 nights
  • All windows are high efficiency double or triple pane
  • Replace air filters monthly
